1971 Porsche 914
I purchased this car in June of 2003 on “EBAYâ€. The original owner described the car in the following manner …
“This body is rust free, stock and straight. It was set up for club racing. It is brand new fresh and I have not had a chance to get it on a track nor have I had time to drive it around town, (its street legal). Power is via 1973 twin Weber 40MM carbs, 2.0L / 12:1 compression motor with custom JE Pistons and rods, giant valves in Hi Comp milled heads with all the correct goodies. A custom ground crank and top of the line bearings thru out. It has a front oil cooler and steel braided lines with Aeroquip fittings thru out. I spent close to $5,000 on the motor and everything in it is new with no expense spared right down to the Hi Torque starter. Behind the motor is a rebuilt side shifter transmission with Sachs clutch components and perfect linkage. Looking under the car shows no leaks and the pan is rust free and undamaged. It has 1971 911 suspension ( 5 bolt Fuchs ) and brakes with new stainless steel braided lines, new bearings and races. 930 tie rods, new Troutman 140lb springs, gas shocks, and new master cylinder. I have lots of extra parts including another side shift transmission that is included. The overall condition of the car is good. No rust anywhere. I have front and rear Weltmeister swaybars that need mounting. It needs tires and could use a paint job but its ok for racing or on the street.â€
I have probably put less than 100 miles on the car since I bought it. Has been parked in my garage ever since. I too have run out of garage space and time to enjoy the car. When I purchased it, I had our local 914 mechanic do the following:
Adjust valves, Replace case bolt leaking oil, Adjust ignition timing to 32 degrees BTDC, Adjust carb mixture, Tighten axle nuts, Check compression- 160 lbs all cylinders, Bleed brakes, Replace Transmission Mounts, Replace Ball Joints.
I also installed the following:
New Bursch Exhaust, New Weltmeister Short Shift Kit, New carpet kit, New console with Gauges ( not hooked up ), New Yokohama 205/50V15 tires, New Bosch 009 Distributor.
Car needs TLC in interior. With 911 suspension and brakes, there is no emergency brake. Heater is out of car. Windshield needs proper installation. High Beams work, regular headlights do not. Passenger door missing glass. Car runs great!! Always fires up.
